Hundreds arrived today (Wednesday) at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem to pay their respects to Sergeant Major (res.) Roy Sasson of Mevasseret Zion, who fell yesterday in a clash with terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip.

The commander of the Nachshon Battalion in the Kfir Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Yoel Glickman, who was seriously injured in the encounter, arrived in a wheelchair to salute Sashon, who was the liaison in his company.

The battalion commander eulogized: "Last night, the State of Israel lost one of its best sons. We stand here today, mourning the terrible loss, the loss of a warrior and a hero. You left for the company commander course in your first assignment, and throughout your service you were a commander and an outstanding commander in every position. Last August, you were discharged and continued your reserve service. It was clear to you that when the battalion entered maneuvers, you would be the first to fight alongside your commanders and subordinates.".

Glickman said: "A few days ago, in a large-scale operation, you found yourself abandoning the liaison role and running towards a significant destruction mission. Yesterday afternoon, you also strived for contact with your company commander, but a despicable terrorist hit you.".

The battalion commander spoke about his personal injury: "I immediately ran to cover you and was shot in the chest. While rescuing you, we eliminated the terrorists. We are in a war for the existence of the state. In this war, we must be united and determined, only in this way can we ensure the existence of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. We will remember and remember Roy as a warrior who risked his life for the eternity of Israel.".

Glickman took up his position during the war. On October 7, he was transferred from a command and staff course to the Gaza perimeter and participated in fighting against Hamas terrorists in kibbutzim.
