Diaspora Minister Amichai Shikli sharply criticized the wording of a statement by IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari this evening (Wednesday) - which compared the freezing of the reserve service of 'Brothers in Arms' activist Lt. Col. (res.) Ron Sharf to that of Col. Hezi Nechama.

During the legal reform period, before the war, Ron Sharf declared that he would not report for reserve service as long as the legislation lasted. On the other hand, Nechama's "crime" was that he criticized the army's performance in the war, as a civilian.
The IDF spokesman's statement read: "The head of Military Intelligence and the commander of the ground force decided to continue freezing the reserve service of Lt. Col. (res.) Ron Sharf and Col. (res.) Hezi Nechama until July 2025. In July, the commanders will hold a renewed discussion on the matter.".
Minister Shikley responded sharply: "This is a statement from the IDF spokesman that was sent to military reporters. The hero of Israel, Col. Hezi Nechama, who dared to express criticism of the Chief of Staff, stands alongside the wretched Ron Sharf - the head of the instigators of organized refusal that seriously harmed Israel's security.".
Shikley added: "Mr. Hegry, I am ashamed and embarrassed that you dared to issue such a statement. The disgraceful comparison between these two is absolute moral vertigo. You are not worthy of being a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces and whoever approved the wording of this statement is not worthy of being an IDF commander.".
Senior political commentator Amit Segal responded after the IDF spokesman's statement, which linked the two officers together: "What an obscene symmetry. I don't understand what's going on with the IDF.".
