Thousands of Viznitz Hasidim participated in Yom Kippur prayers at the large Beit Midrash in the Viznitz neighborhood in Bnei Brak - under the shadow of the Rebbe.
On the eve of Yom Kippur, the Rebbe held a 'tish', during which he publicly addressed his medical condition: "I don't like people to panic and be anxious, on any issue - and not on this issue either. There is something medical that needs to be dealt with, but we must be calm and trust in her.".
The Rebbe added: "Of course, one can and should pray, but God forbid, one should not fall into all kinds of fears and anxieties and 'black bitterness,' but rather be joyful and trust in the Creator of the world.".
After the 'Kol Nidrei' prayer, the Rebbe spoke and called on his followers throughout the world to take upon themselves not to speak during prayer.
After him, his eldest son, Rabbi Chaim Meir Hager, Av Beit Din of Kiryat Vizhnitz, spoke, calling on everyone to make the right decision for his father's treatment. He mentioned that his grandfather, the author of Yeshuot Moshe, zt"l, in a conversation with his father-in-law, the Rebbe of Lelov, zt"l, told him that maintaining speech in prayer is a virtue for success and healing from serious illnesses.
The Rebbe of Vizhnitz underwent extensive medical examinations last month, and last Sunday the Hasidim were surprised to receive a voice message from the Rebbe's security chief, Rabbi Shaul Griberger, rabbi of the Vizhnitz yeshiva, informing the Hasidim of the Rebbe's medical condition.
The Shin Bet explained in a statement to the public that the Rebbe underwent a series of tests last week, and that the test results "indicate the need for certain treatment.".
According to him, the Rebbe's daily schedule will continue as usual, while the public is called to continue praying for the complete health of the Rebbe, Rabbi Israel ben Leah Esther, among the rest of the sick in Israel.
