
A three-year-old boy was seriously injured this evening (Wednesday) when his head became trapped in the bowl of a food mixer, at his home in the ultra-Orthodox city of Modi'in Illit.
Rescue forces called to the scene provided him with initial medical treatment, after which he was rescued by firefighters - after which he was taken to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, in serious condition.
Firefighters from the Binyamin Regional Station were called to the family's home and worked to extract the child's head, which was trapped in the mixer bowl. A firefighter serving as an operational medic rescued the child and provided him with initial medical treatment.
Assistant Chief Ozer Baba, deputy shift commander, said: "A report was received of a child whose head was trapped in a mixer bowl while the mixer was operating. Upon arrival at the scene, we immediately began operations to extract the head accurately in order to preserve the child's condition, while a firefighter who also serves as an operational medic stabilized the child's condition and provided him with initial medical treatment.
""Upon completion of the rescue operations, the child was taken to the hospital in serious and unstable condition.""
MDA medic Shmuel Monk and MDA paramedics Amit Shemesh and Aran Keiner said:
""When we entered the house, we saw the child with the mixer's kneading hook stuck in his face. We began medical examinations while a firefighting team dismantled the device. We continued providing medical treatment and evacuated the child to the hospital in stable condition with the hook stuck in his face.""
Chaim Yaakov Gruman, a United Hatzalah medic: "His family members said that the child's head was caught in the mixer bowl while preparing dough and the mixer's kneading hook was stuck in his face. Fire crews worked at the scene to extract the hook from his head. He was then taken to Sheba-Tel Hashomer Hospital in serious but stable condition.".
