A resident of the Beit El community, married, about 35 years old, a soldier in the reserves, was arrested last night (Friday night) by the Shin Bet on suspicion of involvement in the crime of murder as an act of terrorism. In addition, he is charged with the crime of unlawful shooting in a residential area.

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court decided to extend his detention by 4 days.

This is a case in which a 17-year-old Palestinian was shot to death during riots in the village of Beitin after the murder of the teenager Binyamin Ahimeir in a terrorist attack - on Saturday night about three weeks ago.

The Palestinians then reported a "17-year-old who was killed by settler gunfire," and the IDF said that this was not a shooting carried out by security forces, but rather a shooting carried out, according to suspicion, by Israeli civilians.

The suspect's lawyers, Assaf Gonen and Ariel Atari from the "Honenu" organization, say: "This is a false arrest of an innocent person. He was summoned yesterday morning to the Shin Bet offices in Petah Tikva, he was told that he was not suspected of any offense, they asked him for background material on what was happening in the area. When he refused to cooperate with them, as a sanction we summoned the police investigators, informed him that he was under arrest and then told him that he was indeed suspected of involvement in the murder, how surprising. As an attempt to get him to cooperate, he was arrested, we will do everything so that he spends Shabbat at home.".

The Shin Bet refused to bring the detainee to the hearing at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, and requested that the hearing be held via remote video conference, without the detainee's lawyers being able to meet him before the hearing.

Following this, the court accepted the position of the detainee's lawyers and the hearing was adjourned until noon. Attorney Atari made his way to the Shin Bet facility in Petah Tikva to meet the detainee.

Attorney Atari said: "We left the courtroom at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. The Israel Police requested to extend the detention without the detainee's presence. We strongly opposed this. The court accepted our position and postponed the hearing until a later time. I am on my way to the Petah Tikva to meet the detainee.".

As mentioned, the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court decided to extend the resident's detention by 4 days.
