Original Jewish music:
In the past month, several excellent albums have been released that are recommended as a holiday gift for yourself. I will focus on three of them: The first is the truly special album by singer Yishai Ribo – Tocho Retsuf Ahava, an exceptionally high-quality album with huge hits, wrapped in the heavenly music of the best musicians. The album sold over 3,000 copies in a few weeks, and is already being distributed in a second edition.
""Waiting for Silence" – the new album by the undisputed star of the Da'tal public, Udi Davidi. The album is slightly different from its predecessors and is more personal and deeper. The musical production by Gilad Shmueli (Idan Raichel) is special and gives Udi's new songs a sweetness.
""Song of Songs" - This is one of the more special albums released here in recent times. It is a single album in which 10 different singers from the top of Jewish and Israeli music sing. Starting with the excellent Shuli Rand, the exciting Amir Benayoun, the nightingale Gad Elbaz, the singer David D'Or, Erez Lev Ari and more.
This is a special concept, in which each artist sings a different chapter from the Song of Songs, in a particularly meticulous and invested musical production. Executive producer Lior Yair Menashe created the album with the approval of rabbis (who also appear on the cover) for his mother's treatment, something that started as a curiosity and turned into a real creation.
Shuli Rand from the Song of Songs project:
There is another excellent album that has just been released - "Chance for Love", by singer-songwriter Yehoshua Limoni. Limoni, who was the drummer for Eviatar Banai and many other artists, converted a few years ago, and his new album that is being released these days reflects the process he has gone through in recent years. For some of you, he will remind you a little of Eviatar Banai, but in a slightly happier version.
The song "Mila" from the Limoni album:
Oriental music:
I am not a great expert on Mediterranean music, but the evening voice of singer Elicam Buta goes before him. The album, which was so appropriately named - "The Sound of Bells", is the fruit of two years of work, during which Elicam, an unknown singer, became one of the most recognized singers in the genre, and his songs are played in all media outlets in Israel.
Hasidic music:
The Hasidic market has been quite dry in recent months. Anyone who hasn't yet caught up on Yaakov Shweki's latest album - "Voices", is advised to listen to this Israeli-Hasidic album. Shweki, who has already tried to release a "Mizrahi" album in the past, chose songs that are more suitable for performance, and a production that is more in line with Hebrew - and the result is pleasant and interesting.
A taste of the album's songs:
Other albums that made waves are "Jewish Point" by the colorful man and the captains - Lipa Schmelzer, and "Am Ehad" by singer Ari Goldwag, former lead singer of the band Miami and currently a successful singer. Ari, who is responsible for the big hit "Yesh Tikva", has released a new album that is packed with new and successful melodies.
For Carlebach fans:
""My Place" - Raz Hartman's new album will take you on a fascinating musical journey. Rabbi Hartman is a professional musician and a community rabbi in Nachlaot. His songs, which are very reminiscent of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, are moving and touching. I often hear in my mind's ears the dancing rabbi singing Rabbi Hartman's songs. This is his third album and this time with a more meticulous musical production.
""Not Ours" - a song of praise from the album:
For those of you who are already thinking and preparing for the Omer: The Maccabees' new album, "Just One Day," can be with you both during the holiday and continue into the days of the Omer, as all the voices and arrangements on the album are human voices only. The Maccabees' rich arrangements can easily be suitable for the entire year, not just the days of the Omer, and in some cases, someone who doesn't understand music wouldn't even notice that they are just voices.
Happy Holidays and happy listening.
