War Cabinet member, Minister Benny Gantz, commented today (Friday) on the recruitment of Haredim into the IDF.
Gantz said: "We are at a time of great need for Israeli society regarding the right to serve in the IDF. This right has become an urgent national and security need these days. Maintaining the people's army is an existential need to ensure our future that cannot be compromised. This is what the majority of the Israeli public understands - and it is our duty as elected officials to act to make this happen.".
He added: "Everyone deserves equal rights. Everyone deserves to maintain their beliefs and way of life. And everyone should take part in the right to serve the country. It can be done. It must be done, through the right process and with broad agreement with both the ultra-Orthodox and the Arabs.".
Earlier today, Minister Shlomo Karai attacked Defense Minister Yoav Galant: "This week, while our fighters are on the front lines, whoever decided this was the time to stir up strife and debate among the people. In fancy clothes and a security aura, he decided that he is the ruler and without him, no Knesset member will raise his hand in favor of a law that does not receive his approval and the consent of those who desire to overthrow the government.".
""The Prime Minister did well when he made it clear that Bush and Hila do not deserve fame, that he is the one in charge here, who will submit a bill that is good in the eyes of the people, and that here they are acting according to the will of the people and not with absolute consent, North Korea-style.".
He added: "Instead of complete agreement, it is better to focus on complete victory and ways to achieve it, including, incidentally, a change in perception regarding the distribution of humanitarian aid that will lead to the return of our hostages home to a good life and peace.".
