Defense Minister Yoav Galant made a statement to the media this evening (Monday) about the war in the Gaza Strip.
Gallant said: "The ground operation is progressing and achieving its goals. 18 Hamas battalions have been dismantled, half of the Hamas terrorists have been killed or seriously injured.".
Gallant said of the maneuver itself that it was "one of the most complex in the history of wars.".
Regarding the fighting in Khan Yunis, he said: "Three of the four battalions of the Hamas brigade there have been disbanded and the fourth will be disbanded very soon.".
Regarding the hostages, he said: "The military move creates the conditions for the return of the hostages. We continue to press to create the conditions to return all the hostages. We will reach the places where we have not fought before, in the center of the Gaza Strip and in the south, and especially in Rafah. Every terrorist hiding in Rafah knows that his end will be like in Khan Yunis and Gaza.".
""Hamas only understands power. The Hamas leadership, headed by Yahya Sinwar, is on the run from IDF forces. He is moving from one hiding place to another. In recent days, IDF fighters have found significant materials in the place where he was staying, and thanks to them we are improving and deepening our grip.".
""Sinwar is busy with his personal survival. He went from being the head of Hamas to a fugitive terrorist. We continue to pursue him above ground and below ground.".
