The clashes near the Gaza Strip border: The IDF attacked a military position of the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip this evening (Saturday night) using a remotely piloted aircraft.
The position is close to the epicenter where a violent disturbance took place and from which shots were fired at IDF forces near the border fence in the Gaza Strip.
The riots, involving hundreds of rioters, took place in recent hours near the border fence in the Gaza Strip. IDF forces were deployed in the area and responded to the disturbances with riot dispersal measures and sniper fire.
Several hits were identified. Up to this point, no incendiary balloons that crossed the fence area have been identified.
The attack this evening took place after the IDF attacked three Hamas military positions on the Gaza Strip border on Saturday night - using a drone and a tank - in response to the launching of incendiary balloons towards communities surrounding Gaza, during Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.
The release of incendiary balloons from the Gaza Strip caused several fires in the Eshkol Regional Council. Fire and rescue teams, together with KKL-JNF teams, extinguished the fires in agricultural areas around Gaza.
According to an IDF spokesman's statement, for the first time in two years, the IDF attacked two Hamas positions from the air using drones and another position using a tank, near which shots were fired at IDF fighters operating along the border.
The positions are close to hotspots where riots are taking place, and from them incendiary balloons were launched near the border fence in the Gaza Strip.
