Eliyahu Dahan, a 23-year-old ultra-Orthodox youth, was seriously injured in a stabbing attack on Shabbat more than two weeks ago. The person who found him bleeding in the street and saved his life was Shimon Levy - also a survivor of an attack during the Second Intifada.
This week the two met at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, and Inbar Toizer documented the exciting meeting on Channel 12.
""Brother, you saved a life. I owe you my life and with God's help I will be able to stand on my own two feet and come to say thank you," Dahan said to Levi.
""I'm the one who should thank you," Levi replied.
About twenty years ago, when he was only six months old, Shimon survived a suicide bombing in the Beit Israel neighborhood of Jerusalem, in which nine civilians were killed. "A suicide bomber blew himself up over me and my parents, with a 35-kilo explosive charge. I flew three meters into the air from the impact and fell under a burning car. The chairman of ZAKA entered the flames and risked his life to get me out of there. Seconds later, the car exploded.
""Today I am here and so excited to see you with us: smiling and strong, I understand that God gave me the right to save another person's life, just as they saved my life," Shimon Levy recalled.
Eliyahu has difficulty remembering the terrifying moments of the attack on Saturday and strains his memory: "I saw the knife and realized I had been stabbed. I remember that in the first seconds I tried to pull the knife out but I couldn't move.".
But Shimon remembers well: "We came from the direction of the garden, and before I reached you I heard you yelling 'Save me.' At first I thought these were children playing, I moved forward and saw the terrorist yelling and running towards the road.
""I ran to you and saw you trying to get up. I explained to you that you weren't allowed to move, I stopped the blood, and I held the knife. I remember you asking me if you would get out of this alive.".
And although his memory of the event was damaged, Eliyahu recalled: "I remember asking everyone around me a million times: Will I get out of this alive?".
