Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: In Bnei Brak, Rabbi Yishai Weiner-Weintraub, a veteran of the Haredi media, passed away today (Wednesday) at the age of 57, after a serious illness that he had been battling for the past 20 years.

At noon, he felt unwell and went into cardiac arrest. Rescue forces called to his house performed prolonged CPR on him, but to the dismay of his family, he died.

The late Rabbi Yishai was born in Iyar 5765 to his father, Rabbi Yechiel Gershon Weintrove, a member of the Strikov Hasidim.

In his youth he studied at the Grodno Yeshiva and in Ponibez. When he reached his adulthood, he married his wife Hannah, daughter of the late Rabbi Yoel Levin, owner of the Levin Printing House in Petach Tikva.

The late, z"l, began his career in journalism when he was young - and he was the one who invented the Haredi "Neyes".

He was a prominent reporter for the newspaper 'Yom Hashishi', edited by Yitzhak Nachshoni, and for many years served as editor of the local newspaper 'Kol Ha'ir' in Bnei Brak, part of the 'Kav Religious Press' network. He later edited the sites 'Hadashot Shelanu', where he founded the genre of photos of rebbes and rabbis.

Twenty years ago he contracted multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair. Despite this, he continued his routine, although he retired from the world of journalism, except for brief glimpses.

About two years ago, he reprinted the Passover Haggadah 'Nava Tehila' by his grandfather, Rabbi Yaakov David of Radomsk.

Rabbi Sivan was honored to introduce a Torah scroll to the Eshel Avraham Beit Midrash of the Strykov Hasidic sect in Beitar Illit - a sect to which he was deeply connected.

He left behind his wife and three children.

His funeral procession will leave today at 5:00 PM from his home at 30 Rav Kook Street in Bnei Brak to Beit HaChaim Yarkon, Shaar Petah Tikva - where he will be buried.
