Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi participated today (Monday) in a General Staff learning conference to conclude the 'Chariots of Fire' exercise - the month of war in the IDF, with a beard on his face as a sign of mourning after the passing of his father, the late Shaul Kochavi.
Shaul Kochavi passed away about 10 days ago, at the age of 89.
He was born in Kiryat Haim in 1933 and grew up there. In his youth he was a trainee and instructor in the Workers' Youth. He joined the Nahal training at Kibbutz Erez in the Gaza Strip, where he met his wife Riva.
The two married and moved to Kiryat Bialik, where they raised their three children - daughter Tal, 64, and sons Aviv, 58, and Zohar, 52.
It should be noted that President Yitzhak Herzog also appears in public with a beard as a sign of mourning for the death of his mother, Ora.
