3-month record: about 4,000 confirmed cases, increase in severe cases

A surge in morbidity: Data released by the Ministry of Health this morning (Thursday) shows that 3,947 Israelis were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours - out of approximately 136,000 tests. This is an increase of approximately 1,000 confirmed cases compared to yesterday.

This is also the highest figure since the end of September.

The percentage of positive tests this morning stands at 2.93%. There has also been an increase in the infection rate, which rose to 1.62 - indicating the spread of the coronavirus.

Alongside this, there has been an increase in the number of seriously ill patients, which stands at 94 - 46 of whom are in critical condition. 78% of whom are not vaccinated against Corona.

The number of active patients stands at 20,429.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 8,243 people have been reported to have died from coronavirus.

It should be noted that, in the meantime, from midnight to 8:30 a.m., over 1,000 additional confirmed cases were diagnosed, indicating that the worrying trend is expected to continue today.

The first shipment of Pfizer's coronavirus treatment drugs is expected to land in Israel this afternoon. Approximately 20,000 doses of the drug "Paxilovid" will arrive in a shipment from Belgium.

The cost of the drug, which includes five pills in one treatment dose, is $750. According to Pfizer data, the drug reduces the risk of severe illness among those infected by about 901%.
