The Israel Police's maritime policing unit was called to an emergency tonight, upon receiving a report at the 100 hotline near midnight, about two men in their 50s reporting distress.
They reported that they were on a vessel whose engine had stopped working, and the boat had drifted many kilometers from the coastline, unable to navigate or control its movement.
The maritime police team began searching from the Shefayim area opposite Netanya until they located the boat with the two men in it, and after a rescue operation, they towed the vessel towards the marina in Herzliya - to a safe beach.
The police reiterate the importance of safe cruising, especially during these times:
• Sailing with partners while equipped with communication means.
• Leaving a contact person "outside the water" – for reporting when necessary.
• Carrying a mobile phone in a waterproof case.
