A hard blow to United Hatzalah: The rabbis, Rabbi Yehuda Silman and Rabbi Shariel Rosenberg, resigned from the rabbinical council of the Ichud Hatzalah organization, claiming that it had "changed its character.".

The letter sent to the management of United Hatzalah stated: "In recent years, we have witnessed a trend of change that is taking place within the organization, much to our displeasure. When the organization was established, it was an ultra-Orthodox organization in every sense, trusting in the code of conduct of the ultra-Orthodox public, and therefore we were asked by our rabbis, zt"l, to be the spiritual authority of the organization.
""However, now the organization has changed its nature, operating on the basis of different values, which are not in line with our view.".
""Therefore," the rabbis write, "we consider ourselves exempt from responsibility for your conduct, and we hereby announce our resignation from membership in the Rabbinical Committee.".
The Zichron Meir teaching house, headed by Rabbi Wasner, is also the president of the competing organization Hatzala Gush Dan, and has also issued a ruling prohibiting volunteering in the Ichud Hatzala organization.
Ihud Hatzalah responds to Haredim 10 that the organization has over 6,000 volunteers from all parts of the public in the State of Israel "who receive the full envelope for their activities, while adjusting according to the religion, conscience and lifestyle of each volunteer.".
""So are the organization's volunteers from the Haredi community, who have been an integral part since the establishment of United Hatzalah and work on halakhic issues according to the instructions of the rabbis and halacha.".
""We regret that vested interests who wish to harm the campaign to raise life-saving equipment for United Hatzalah that is currently taking place are doing everything in their power to harm the activities of thousands of volunteers of the organization for extraneous considerations that have nothing to do with saving lives.".
Are the rabbis who were members of the organization's rabbinical committee vested interests harming the campaign? We asked one of the organization's spokespeople.
""No. Absolutely not. God forbid. We are not talking about rabbis. There are elements who are heating up the issue and they are being discussed.".
The rabbis are the ones who wrote the letters. I asked if there was a response to their letters.
""There is no comment on the letters themselves," he replied.
