Rabbi Hizkiyahu Samin, director of the Religious Services Division at the Ministry of Religious Services, sent a letter today (Tuesday) to the rabbis responsible for national kashrut in which he recommended ordering kashrut supervisors and inspectors to no longer enter Arab villages - due to disturbances.

In the letter, titled "The Safety and Security of Kashrut Inspectors and Supervisors," Rabbi Samin writes: "In light of the internal security situation prevailing in the country, it is our duty to ensure the safety and security of Kashrut Inspectors and Supervisors during routine and special days during this period.".
After explaining that kashrut inspectors and supervisors travel in vehicles that are not coordinated, as they are not protected, and that in some cases the travel is in isolated places, he recommends: "The inspectors and supervisors should be prevented from entering Arab villages during this period!""
In the letter, which is also addressed to the chief rabbis, the minister, and the director general of the Ministry of Religious Services, he further writes: "My opinion is that the public and the factories and businesses located in Arab villages should be urgently informed about this, because you cannot accept responsibility for kashrut, for all that this implies.".
The meaning of the recommendation: removing kashrut from products produced in Arab localities.
Following the letter, this evening, the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services, Oded Plus, instructed the National Kashrut Director to examine the continued provision of kashrut and supervision services in Arab localities.
The ministry's director general's directive follows a letter from Rabbi Hizkiyahu Samin.
In a conversation between the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services and Aryeh Abuhatzeira, who heads the national kashrut system, the possibilities for continuing the activities of kashrut supervisors were examined, while maintaining their safety.
Minister of Religious Services Yaakov Avitan and the ministry's director, Oded Plus, will contact Minister of Public Security MK Amir Ohana and Police Commissioner General Kobi Shabtai in order to create security arrangements for kashrut supervisors.
At the same time, it will contact the heads of authorities in the Arab sector to ensure the safety of kashrut supervisors.
Oded Plus said this evening: "These days we are required to do everything to maintain the routine of life. We will not allow the cessation of kosher services. The ministry has worked and is working even in these complex days to find a solution for the protection and safety of kashrut supervisors who perform sacred work.".
