Journalist Sharon Idan, the diligent reporter on transportation, aviation, and tourism for Kan News and Reshet B, was injured during his service and became an IDF disabled person after parts of his leg were amputated - following an injury he suffered as a rescue officer.
Following the shocking incident in which disabled IDF soldier Itzik Saidian set himself on fire in front of the offices of the Ministry of Defense's Rehabilitation Division, Idan shared on his Twitter account today (Tuesday) his experiences in contact with the Rehabilitation Division.
Idan said: "I am a disabled IDF soldier with partial amputation of my foot, and I will never forget how a doctor on the committee told me disdainfully: 'This is what it is. Don't be a foot model. Why are you complaining about how your foot looks? It won't add a shekel to your salary. You don't add it to ground meat.'.
""Like this - word for word. As if that's what interested me. Unfortunately, the starting assumption in committees is simple: 'You're all frauds' unless you prove otherwise.".
""Because I've always had a big mouth, I answered the doctor, and I'm twenty-and-a-half years old: 'I'm just physically disabled, you have a much more severe and profound disability for life.' He was so amazed that he later tried to correct the impression. I never even glanced at him again.".
