Former MK Oren Hazan today (Thursday) attacked the "circumcision" ceremony held by singer and songwriter Idan Reichel and his Austrian partner Damaris Dubel for their twin sons.
Last week, the couple had twins.
However, while all public figures remain silent in the face of widespread assimilation in Israel, Hazan, according to Channel 7, sharply attacked the phenomenon.
""I love a person as a person, regardless of religion, race, or gender. But the ugly phenomenon that mocks the Jewish people and quietly tries to turn us into all the Gentiles and a legacy of the past is not only dangerous but anti-Semitism in its own right," said Hazan.
""The new trend of performing Jewish circumcision according to the law for Gentiles, while disregarding the covenant of our forefather Abraham, who was from the other side of the world to a whole world of heresy in God, proves to us how great our work is in preserving Jewish heritage and tradition.".
He added: "I call on Israel's elected officials to remember that with all due respect to modernization, there is a people here who are still fighting for their part, existence and teachings in the world.".
A few weeks ago, a similar "circumcision" ceremony was held for the son of media personality Lucy Aharish and actor Tzachi Halevi.
In the face of the brass's excited wishes for the assimilated couple, the cantor then responded: "My dears, I don't want to ruin the celebration, but I remind you that the baby is not Jewish and this is not a circumcision and certainly not the covenant of our forefather Abraham. For me, and for many in the Jewish people, this is a difficult and sad story. Really sad.".
