The Knesset Committee decided today (Monday) to recommend to the Knesset Plenum to elect MK Yisrael Eichler of Agudat Yisrael for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, replacing MK Eliyahu Baruchi of Degel.

MK Elazar Stern of Mish Atid opposed the appointment of MK Eichler to the position during the debate.

Stern claimed: "Eichler does not add anything to the Torah, and certainly does not add respect to the Knesset. I think it is worth examining his statements from the podium.".
He added: "He bears the name of the Holocaust on his lips in vain, he uses it everywhere possible, anything can be a pogrom, can be anti-Semitism. He creates hatred between Jews and non-Jews.".
Meanwhile, the committee also approved the split of the United Torah Judaism faction into two factions - the Agudat Yisrael faction and the Degel Hatorah faction. The move is carried out before each election campaign.
