Greek media reported today (Wednesday) that the United States has approved the expedited transfer of six advanced F-35 stealth fighter jets to the Greek Air Force.

Always happy: There are new flavors you shouldn't miss

The Greek news website "Greek City Times" reported that the aircraft to be transferred to Greece were originally intended for the Turkish Air Force - but their transfer was canceled following Ankara's decision to purchase S-400 air defense systems from Russia.

This is another diplomatic blow to Turkey, which in recent months has also managed to damage relations with Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, and France.

According to a report in Israel Hayom, Turkey is planning a "diplomatic response" against France over a derogatory cartoon of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that appeared on the cover of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Earlier this week, Paris recalled its ambassador from Ankara, after Erdogan claimed that the French president needed a "mental checkup.".

The veteran newspaper 'Astia' reported that the US has approved the sale of 20 F-35 aircraft to the Greeks.

The new purchase is part of a comprehensive armament program by Greece, which is being launched with American and European support following Turkey's increasing threats to Greece's territorial and economic waters in the eastern Mediterranean basin.

Military tensions between Ankara and Athens reached a peak last month when Turkish fighter jets were sent to fly over the Greek island of Kastellorizo, located off the coast of Turkey, after Greece transferred military forces to the island.
