Life-saving equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars was stolen Sunday night from a parked vehicle belonging to the Hatzala organization in the Crown Heights neighborhood.
The theft occurred near midnight, when a thief approached the vehicle parked at the corner of Carroll and Stanketty streets, threw a rock at the back window and broke it - in front of the eyes of passersby.
The thief waited on the street for a few minutes to observe the reaction of passersby at the sight of the broken-in vehicle.
When he noticed that no one was paying attention, he approached the vehicle with a shopping cart - and began loading it with equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars. This was done while drivers were passing by.
No one stopped to report the thief.
According to security camera footage in the area, when he finished loading his cart, the thief took the equipment with him up Stanketty Street.
On Monday morning, the break-in was discovered and a hunt began to locate it.
Volunteers from the Crown Heights neighborhood and rescue workers searched the streets and found some of the equipment scattered in nearby streets. Within a short time, with the help of several locals, all the equipment was found, but the thief was not located.
