What economic hardship is doing to people: A commotion broke out this morning (Wednesday) at the Bnei Brak city hall, when an ultra-Orthodox resident who came to the office of the mayor, Hanoch Seibert, poured a bottle of kerosene on himself and threatened to set himself on fire.
The man arrived with a one-and-a-half-liter bottle containing flammable liquid. He entered the office and shouted that the municipality would pay for his holiday expenses: "I don't have money to buy food for my family for the holiday.".
At this point, he poured the flammable substance on himself and threatened to set himself on fire.
The bureau secretary immediately called the security guard, who jumped on him, overpowered him, and managed to take the lighter out of his hand.
After the takeover, the municipality officials calmed the man down and promised to help him buy holiday supplies.
The mayor made sure to reach an understanding with the police, who would not take any action against the man, and he was released. The reasoning: "This is a request that needs to be assisted.".
