Researchers who are members of the Historical Association in Poland found a treasure trove of Judaica last night (Sunday) during excavations they conducted in the town of Nowy Sącz-Sańcz, the town of the author of the "Divrei Chaim" of Sanz.
The treasure, which was uncovered using a metal detector, includes silverware including goblets, a Havdalah candle, wine jugs, cutlery and other items.
The finds uncovered near a castle in Nowy Sącz will be transferred to the archaeology offices, where they will try to decipher when they were made and where they came from, and after they are cleaned, they will be transferred to the museum in Nowy Sącz.
And who buried the treasure there and when? It is currently unclear.
One of the researchers said that it is still unclear whether the Judaica objects are related to buildings that once existed in the area, ancient treasure buried during the Holocaust, or objects looted by Germans.
