This evening (Wednesday), ultra-Orthodox children placed a doll with the image of Tiberias Mayor Ron Kobi inside a bonfire they prepared for Lag BaOmer, and a sign placed on it read: "Ron Kobi will die.".
Council member Yossi Oknin from the Shas faction arrived at the scene and took down the sign.
Police forces also arrived at the scene, dispersed the boys and dismantled the bonfire.
The mayor of Tiberias responded to the event on his Facebook account: "Shame and disgrace to Tiberias, its representatives, and if this is how you educate the next generation in Tiberias on such a holy holiday. Show responsibility because you have completely lost it and resign immediately.".
Rafael Trabelsi, a city council member from the Jewish Home faction, wrote on Facebook: "This is not our way - we are all Jews. Even though it involves a very small number of children, even though immediately upon receiving information about this unnecessary provocation, city council member Yossi Oknin arrived and took it down for them, and after that the Tiberias police arrived and dealt with it.".
He added: "We, the opposition members of the Tiberias City Council, condemn and oppose any act of violence. Enough with violence - not verbal violence or physical violence. Educating children must be with love, just like what is done in the education systems. Education for values, peace, brotherhood and friendship.".
