As part of a discussion on preparations for Lag BaOmer that took place in the office of the mayor of Bnei Brak, Avraham Rubinstein ordered tough action against children who light bonfires during routine days and endanger the public space.
""I instructed Shlomo Borovsky to tell the administrators of the TATs that children who behave like this should be punished, violating all the rules of the land that preceded the Torah, and violating the commandment 'and you shall be very careful for your souls,'" the mayor said in the discussion.
On Lag BaOmer, it was clarified that police inspectors and firefighters will allow the lighting of bonfires and will intervene only when, God forbid, there is a danger to human life or damage to property.
""We must be careful not to disappoint the children who prepare for weeks on end for Lag BaOmer, collecting planks and wood, and sometimes inadvertently harming them," he said.
He added: "The lighting of bonfires should be allowed as usual, while fully adhering to safety rules, and the intervention of the authorities in cases of need in order to prevent cases of human trafficking.".
According to the conclusions reached at the meeting, the police, supervision and firefighting teams will be reinforced throughout the night of Lag BaOmer, and will work to enable the bonfire lighting ceremonies, while ensuring the protection of human life and without taking unnecessary risks.
