The women's lobby doesn't understand: Why did Waze decide to speak only to men?

The Israeli Women's Lobby has appealed to the CEO of Waze, demanding that all forms of narration available in the company's navigation system be made accessible in a woman's language.

The lobby demanded that first and foremost, the street names and road numbers be added to the only narration that exists in the system in the female language.

Currently, the only female-language narration available in the Waze navigation system only indicates generic directions of direction and distance ("in x meters - turn right/left" and the like), which significantly complicates the navigation ability of women who choose to have the system address them in their own language, and requires frequent glances at the screen of the mobile device to ensure that the route the driver chooses is indeed the route the narrator intended.

"Not only is this discrimination," warned the women's lobby, "but this situation also increases the risk for women who use this function while driving.".

The Women's Lobby emphasized: "As is known, language creates reality, and a language that acknowledges the existence of half of the population - women, by addressing them in the language of women, is one that promotes equality and social visibility and allows women to feel and even be an integral part of society.

""Knowing that Waze is an innovative company with progressive values, we are confident that there will be no obstacle to correcting this discrimination.".
