Another selfie from the operating room: A dentist and his colleagues filmed themselves with a patient, moments before the start of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the private Herzliya Medical Center hospital. This was reported in the Israel Hayom newspaper.
According to the report, the photo was taken a few months ago, but was only recently uploaded to the dentist's Instagram page.
The photo shows the doctors with the patient, who is lying on the operating room bed. The dentist who uploaded the photo wrote: "Salivary gland surgery day.".
The photo was removed from Instagram by the dentist immediately after the newspaper contacted him.
The photo shows two more doctors from another hospital who also work at the Medical Center, and an anesthesiologist. Following Israel Hayom's appeal, the doctors involved were reprimanded.
The doctor who appeared in the photo said that she asked the dentist not to use the photo, after it turned out that the patient also appears in it.
Danny Engel, director of Herzliya Medical Center: "The photo was taken six months ago and was taken by a dentist who came to the hospital for training. We view the incident seriously. The entire trio of doctors has been reprimanded and we will issue a report on the incident to all doctors in order to refine procedures. It is forbidden to photograph a patient in the operating room and publish his photo, except with his consent and signature.".
Attorney Guy Wagner, manager of the Facebook page "Vanity Killed Mother": "This is a shocking and inhumane case, in which doctors and medical staff take a 'selfie' picture with a patient who is entrusting his life in their hands on the operating table and even publish it for all to see as if it were a festive event. The disease of vanity from which some doctors suffer knows no bounds.".
