Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: In Bnei Brak, the rabbi Elimelech Bornstein, one of the most prominent Chabad Hasidim in the city of Torah and Hasidism, passed away this morning (Sunday), at the age of 74.
The late Zt"l suffered a stroke last Sukkot and had been hospitalized in serious condition in a hospital since then. This morning, as mentioned, he passed away to the shock of his family, friends, and thousands of his students.
The late Rabbi Zz"l was born in Jerusalem to Rabbi Issachar-Dov and Yehudit-Zvia Bornstein, may God have mercy on him, a Jerusalem Hasidic family.
In his youth, he studied in Lithuanian yeshivahs and became known as a great scholar. Even before his marriage, he became close to Chabad Hasidism and became an ardent follower of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the late Rabbi of Lubavitcher.
When he reached his peak, he married his wife Sarah, the daughter of the renowned Chabad leader at the Chabad Mea Shearim synagogue - Rabbi David Goldberg zt"l.
For years, he served as a rabbi at the 'Pamei Yaakov' kollel headed by the rabbi of Bnei Brak, the rabbi of the time, Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Leib Landau, and at the Chabad yeshiva in the city. The deceased was also a unique 'prayer leader'.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, and his sons and daughters: Nechama-Dina Weber of Kiryat Ata, Rabbi David of Ra'anana, Rabbi Moshe, Chabad of Ashkelon, Rabbi Chaim, Chabad of Kiryat Tivon, Rabbi Shmuel of Jerusalem, and Rachel Yaakovovich, Chabad of Tel Aviv.
The deceased is the brother-in-law of the influential Rabbi Nachum Kaplan of Lod, Rabbi Mordechai Goldberg of Bnei Brak, and Rabbi Yaakov-Shlomo Goldberg of Crown Heights.
His brother is the eminent Rabbi Shmuel-Yaakov Bornstein, Rosh Yeshiva of the Kiryat Melech Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
His funeral will leave at 1:30 PM from his home on Damascus Eliezer Street, and will pass through the Chabad synagogue in the Neve Ahiezer neighborhood, where he prayed for decades.
At 3:30 PM, the funeral will leave the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem on its way to Mount Hamunehot - where it will be buried.
