Starting this coming Saturday evening, free trips from the Western Wall to the ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem on Egged buses will be discontinued, the Ministry of Transportation announced last night.

Until now, an arrangement has been made with passengers from the Western Wall immediately after Shabbat, whereby bus drivers do not charge passengers. This is because the passengers arrived at the Western Wall during Shabbat and do not have money to pay for the trip.

According to the arrangement, the passengers were supposed to pay for the trip later in the week.

However, according to the Ministry of Transportation, most passengers did not pay for the trip during the week, and therefore it was decided to cancel this procedure.

Thus, starting this coming Saturday evening, all passengers will be required to pay for their trip from the Western Wall.

Haredi Knesset members appealed to Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, demanding that the directive be canceled and the arrangement that has been in place until now continued.
