Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: This morning (Friday), the rabbi Moshe Michaelshvili, who served for many years as the rabbi of the Jews of Georgia, passed away at the age of 81, after an illness.

Hacham Moshe Michaelshvili was born in the city of Kolashi, to his father Hacham Shabtai Michaelshvili, son of Rabbi Hacham Avraham Michaelshvili, and his mother Zipporah. He received his education in his father's and grandparents' homes, where he was instilled with a love of Torah, love of Israel, and observance of the mitzvot. Upon arriving in Pirko, he married Mrs. Leah from the Betuniashvili family.

Together with his brothers, Chacham Yaakov Michaelshvili and Chacham Ben-Zion Michaelshvili, he was one of the first immigrants from Georgia, even before the opening of the Iron Curtain and the great immigration from Georgia in the 1970s. When he arrived in Israel, he lived with his family in the village of Chabad. A few years later, he was sent by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, ztuk"l, to Kiryat Malachi, to assist in the absorption of the many immigrants from Georgia.

In previous years, there was a network of Torah Talmuds in the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon, where the children of the community studied in the afternoons.

He served for years as the Chief Rabbi of Georgian Jewry, and as president of the Chabad Organization for Georgian Jews, which operates in the field of Jewish heritage education among the Georgian community, and is located in the city of Ashdod.
