The car of a judge at the Beersheba District Court, Nasser Abu Taha, was set on fire last night (Wednesday) outside his home in the settlement of Omar.

The police are not aware of any threats against the judge, and all avenues of investigation are being examined.

The police said that early this morning, a message was received at the 100 hotline that the vehicle of a judge of the Beersheba District Court had been set on fire. Police forces arrived at the scene and, at the end of the initial investigation, in light of the seriousness of the incident, the commander of the Negev region assigned the investigation to the central unit. "This is an unusual, extreme and extremely serious act," said the commander of the Southern District of the police, Superintendent Yoram Halevi. "Any harm or threat to the institutions of law and justice is a serious and dangerous escalation, and we will use all the tools at our disposal to solve the case.".

Taha was appointed a district court judge in January 2012, and is the first Bedouin in Israel to serve as a district court judge. As he left his home this morning, he said: "I'm returning to routine and the courtroom.".
