So who will be the first trillionaire, or in numbers, who will be the first to cross the $1 trillion mark? The Business Day website reports that financial forecasters claim that the first trillionaire will be Microsoft founder Bill Gates and that this will happen in 25 years.

According to experts, if Gates' fortune continues to grow at the current rate at which it is climbing today, then in 2039 he will earn the sensational title of 'the first trillionaire.'.

The website also reports that the Swiss investment bank Credit Suisse believes that within two generations there will be 11 trillionaires in the world and a billion millionaires. In other words, 20 percent of the world's population will have assets exceeding a million dollars.

Time newspaper adds that with a trillion dollars it would be possible to buy every free square inch of the city of London.

The optimistic forecast of the Swiss investment bank's forecasters has been criticized by other economists. Oliver Williams, a senior economist in London, told the Times: "The question of the first trillionaire is not 'if' but 'when', and yet it is unlikely to happen within 25 years." Other candidates for the title of 'trillionaire' include American investor Warren Buffett and Mexican media mogul Carlos Slim.

Bill Gates is an American entrepreneur and former chairman of the board of directors of Microsoft. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for 2013, he is the richest person in the world and his personal fortune is estimated at $72.7 billion. This is also according to the Forbes ranking from March 2014.
