Here is a strike: Drivers of the Kavim transportation company began a strike this morning (Monday) following a labor dispute with the company's management. As part of the strike, passengers on the company's buses will not be charged, and the drivers are even refusing to take payment from passengers who ask to pay.
""The drivers will operate as usual but will not operate the ticketing machines," said the Kuah LeOvdim organization, which represents the company's workers' committee. The company's workers are protesting their wages, which they claim are the lowest hourly wage in public transportation in Israel, the conditions for workers, and the dismissal of four employees who worked to establish the committee.
The company stated: "Kavim pays wages that are among the highest in public transportation in Israel, wages that are higher than the average in the economy, an annual bonus, annual vacation, and unpaid travel for the company's employees and their families.".
At the same time, the company's management today distributed a message to residents of the cities in which it operates - including Modi'in Elite - demanding that they pay, even though the drivers do not charge. The recorded message states: "The public is asked to try to pay and if you encounter a driver who refuses to take payment, remember to pay next time. Hoping for your understanding and thanking you for your cooperation.".
It is important to note that according to Jewish law, passengers are obligated to pay as usual, since drivers have no authority to waive the payment due to the company's owners, as they are not the owners.
