If MK Yoav Ben-Tzur expected a more significant role, it was not evident on his face today, as he sat in front of a birthday cake prepared in his honor, with Shas Movement Chairman Minister Aryeh Deri at his side.
Ben Tzur, 57, a resident of the Har Nof neighborhood, currently serves as chairman of the Shas faction.
He was born in the city of Kfar Saba. His parents, Shalom and Saada Ben Tzur, immigrated from Yemen in the late 1940s. Like other MKs, not many in Shas, Ben Tzur studied in an Ashkenazi yeshiva, at Or Yisrael in Petah Tikva.
In the past, he held various positions. Among other things, he managed the Or Hadash boarding school in Berchissim, was responsible for the absorption of immigrants in the north on behalf of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and also served as the Director General of the Holy Places, the Director General of the Maayan Torah Education Network, and more.
Ariel Atias' resignation a year ago brought him into the Knesset for the first time. In the last elections, he was re-elected.
