Desecration of the sacred. Unknown individuals desecrated the "Beit Aharon" synagogue, on Rabbi Tarfon Street in Ramat Beit Shemesh B. The burglars broke into the ark, threw the Torah scrolls on the floor in disgrace, and stole the sacred vessels worth tens of thousands of shekels. From there, the burglars continued to the nearby "Leah Amano" synagogue, stole a Torah scroll from there, and later threw it in the nearby forest.
The break-in was discovered this morning (Thursday). The synagogue's attendants arrived for the hawk prayer and were shocked by the sights they saw.
The Beit Aharon synagogue only moved into its new and magnificent home last Passover Eve, after living in a trailer for six years. The break-in, and the desecration, against the backdrop of the school's inauguration, only added to the difficult feelings of the worshippers.
Synagogue collectors report, that two Torah scroll cases, made of pure silver and wood, worth approximately $10,000, were stolen, as well as a special Moroccan shofar worth thousands of shekels.
The forensics team, who arrived at the synagogue to try and find the traces of the burglars, still have no leads, except for the Torah scroll that was stolen from the "Leah Amano" synagogue and, horrifyingly, thrown into the nearby forest.
The synagogue's rabbi, Rabbi Moshe Elhadad, arrived at the police station to file a complaint. The rabbi then toured the area with station commander Shlomi Toledano.
