Embarrassment in the Bnei Brak Municipality: At the Bnei Brak City Council meeting held this evening (Wednesday) at the city hall, a presentation was given on the Sanitation Department's recent activities, by the portfolio holder, Bnei Brak Deputy Mayor Menachem Shapira of the Torah Banner.
At the end of the presentation, a song composed by a city resident was played about the transformation that has taken place in the city and the cleanliness and order in the streets.
Opposition council members Haim Ruhamkin and Moshe Malachi from the Bnei Torah faction protested: "Playing music during the Omer counting is forbidden according to Halacha. We demand that the music be immediately stopped.".
Director of the Sanitation Department, Nati Nahum, responded: "It's a song with a vocal choir without music.".
Rukhmakin responded: "We clearly hear music here, not vocals.".
In a conversation with Haredim10, council member Haim Rochamkin said: "Halakha is halakha and there are no assumptions regarding halakha. Thank God, all the members of the council are Haredi for the word of God and there is no reason for them to trample on halakha. All the participants will testify that this was a song with music and not vocals.".
In a conversation with Haredim 10, the municipality's spokesman, Avraham Tenenbaum, said: "The director of the department is from the Eastern Orthodox denominations, and he believed that there was no problem with it on Rosh Chodesh. As soon as it became clear that there was a halachic problem, the music was stopped.".
It should be noted that today, an early Independence Day celebration for kindergartens was held at the Bnei Brak Municipality Square, accompanied by a singer who sang with her voice in both Hebrew and Hasidic songs, and her singing was heard throughout the area.
