Death sentence for Muslim Brotherhood leader: The Egyptian court today found Muhammad Badie, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, guilty of the offenses attributed to him and sentenced him to death.

Along with him, 682 of his supporters belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood movement were convicted and sentenced to death.

Badie, known as the 'General Guide' of the Muslim Movement in Egypt, was arrested with his supporters in 2013 after they protested against the ouster of their movement's leader, President Mohammed Morsi.

The sentence awaits the decision of the Mufti – Egypt's highest religious authority, who will deliver his recommendation, although the court may ignore it.

At the same time, the court decided to commute the sentences of 492 other convicts, also from the Muslim Brotherhood.

In March, 529 of them were sentenced to death, and the Mufti requested that the sentences of 492 of them be commuted. The court accepted his position and their sentences were commuted to various terms of imprisonment. The death sentences of the remaining 37 remained unchanged.

The Muslim Brotherhood was outlawed last year and defined in Egypt as a 'terrorist movement.' The movement was also outlawed in Saudi Arabia last month.
