In the early afternoon hours of Passover Eve, a Chabad emissary on Long Island stopped his car at the entrance of a wine store in the Crown Heights neighborhood, with the intention of loading wine for the Seder night, with his child left inside the car. Suddenly, a man jumped into the driver's seat and began to flee the scene in the car.
A truck driver who noticed the incident quickly blocked the road, and the thief got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
Last Saturday evening, one of the eyewitnesses contacted the "Guardians" organization, announcing that he had spotted the thief walking around the neighborhood. Three motorists who rushed to the scene followed him, and upon noticing that he was being followed, he broke into an abandoned house and barricaded himself in it.
Dozens of "guards" arrived at the scene, surrounded the house, and called for him to come out. When he refused, the volunteers called the police, who forcibly removed him from the house.
A search conducted by the police revealed assault and burglary tools, identification, and credit cards that were reported stolen.
