The smuggling affair to Gaza in exchange for money: The Military Prosecutor's Office and the Southern District Prosecutor's Office today (Tuesday) submitted a prosecutor's statement in preparation for filing an indictment against a civilian and two IDF officers.
In recent weeks, the Shin Bet, the central unit in the Northern District of the Israel Police, and the Central Special Investigations Unit of the Military Police have been investigating the smuggling of goods to the Gaza Strip inside humanitarian aid trucks - in exchange for receiving hundreds of thousands of shekels.
During the investigation, suspicion arose that a resident of Rahat, Nasser Abu Mustafa, took advantage of his connections with a reserve officer to explore the possibility of smuggling into the Gaza Strip.
After the two formulated the plan for how to carry out the smuggling, the reserve officer contacted the officer in regular service, in order to jointly smuggle goods, including prohibited goods, including hundreds of thousands of cigarettes and several cell phones, to elements within the Gaza Strip. This was in exchange for a profit of hundreds of thousands of shekels for the actions.
During the investigation, the team of investigators collected evidence against a regular service officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel and a reserve officer with the rank of major, who exploited their military position and access to information about the aid trucks.
According to a statement from the security agencies, the trucks in question were stopped due to a malfunction on the way to the Gaza Strip, and the citizen cleared the prohibited goods inside when he arrived to repair them.
The indictments are expected to be filed soon.
