An IDF officer was seriously injured today (Thursday) and a soldier was slightly injured, from an explosive device detonated during an operational activity in Jenin.

The two were evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.

An initial investigation into the incident indicates that a force operating in the Jenin refugee camp conducted a preparatory patrol, in preparation for the establishment of a permanent post within the camp.

During the patrol, the force identified a suspicious object and seconds later the explosion occurred.

It is still unclear what caused it to explode and forces on the ground are investigating. One claim is that the officer touched the explosive device that exploded.

At the same time, the IDF is working to rule out the presence of additional explosive devices in the area.
