Maj. Gen. Guy Loder, 21, from Yavel, a fighter in the Maglan unit, was killed by our forces during an arrest operation carried out by the IDF in the village of Shebaa in southern Lebanon.
In addition, an officer in the unit was seriously injured in the incident. The two received first aid, but Guy was pronounced dead a short time later. The officer was evacuated by helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
The incident occurred during the arrest of Hezbollah supporter Sami Saeb in the village of Shebaa, located near the Israel-Lebanon-Syria border triangle, and most of its residents are Sunnis who are not affiliated with Hezbollah.
According to the IDF, Saab was an active member of the terrorist organization responsible for the connection with the village and was considered a senior wanted person. Therefore, according to the IDF, it was operationally necessary to arrest him and bring him for questioning by Unit 504 in the Intelligence Directorate.
At around 2:00 AM, the force arrived at the entrance to the village where the terrorist lives. The force split into two, with one force performing a flanking operation to secure the compound and the other force arriving at the terrorist's house to capture him - while he was still sleeping in his bed.
After completing the arrest operation, one of the fighters in the force noticed the figure of a man and believed it to be a terrorist trying to escape. The force opened fire towards the area where the fleeing terrorist was allegedly identified, without realizing that they were firing on a force from the unit, which was serving as security at the scene.
The shooting injured the commander of the security force and another soldier. Only after the shooting stopped did it become clear that the soldier had been killed in the shooting and the officer was seriously injured and evacuated by helicopter.
The IDF is investigating the serious incident.
The Lebanese suspect of aiding Hezbollah was arrested and brought to Israel for questioning.
Since the start of the war with Iran, 11 IDF soldiers have been killed in Lebanon.
