United States President Donald Trump said this morning (Wednesday), in an interview with the British Telegraph, that he is "seriously considering" the US's withdrawal from the NATO alliance.

The president said: "This is beyond re-evaluating. I have never been impressed with NATO. I always knew they were a 'paper tiger,' and by the way, Putin knows that too.".

The president attacked Britain in an interview - claiming: "Britain doesn't really have a navy. They're too old, and their aircraft carriers don't work.".

Trump explained that the alliance is currently unilateral, and that while the US acts in Europe's interests - when the US asks for help, it responds negatively: "We were there automatically, including in Ukraine. Ukraine was not our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we have always been there for them. They were not there for us.".

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was interviewed tonight, also said that the US will reexamine its relations with NATO following the war in Iran and the lack of cooperation in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to Trump's criticism by saying that no matter what pressure is put on him, he "will always act in accordance with British interests." He made it clear that the most important thing is to bring about calm in the Middle East, and thus lead to the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

On Saturday, the British Telegraph reported that President Trump is considering a move that would block NATO member states from participating in the decision-making process, and that according to American sources, "the despair of the Europeans is very real.".

This morning it was reported that the United Arab Emirates is ready to provide military assistance to open the Strait of Hormuz, thereby filling the gap left by NATO.
