A new initiative is gaining momentum within internal groups of Gur Hasidim: Hasidim registered as Likud activists are being asked to join forces ahead of the ruling party primaries.
According to a report by Yaakov Hershkowitz in Israel Hayom, the move was intended to unite the Gur Hasidic functionaries into an organized political force, in response to the blatant interference, according to the initiators, of the Prime Minister's Office in the decisions of the AGU's "council.".
According to the report, the organizers claim that the goal of the association is to prove the power of those functioning from within and to "settle accounts" with elements in the Likud who, they claim, have harmed the honor of Israel's great leaders.

The released announcement claimed that the move was made "with the knowledge of Moti Babchik.".
After denials from Babchik's circle, he admits: "I know the organization. It's a group of young men within a group.".
A source in Gur Hasidism told Haredim 10: "For years, Gur Hasidim independently served Likud. Recently, Avrech Gurai arrived and decided to centralize the functions in order to become an influential factor.".
Gur Hasidism was humiliated last week, after the Prime Minister's Office succeeded in splitting Agudat Yisrael - when it gave Israel Eichler of Belza Hasidism the position of Deputy Minister of Communications.
