Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour in the Gaza Strip today (Thursday), along with Southern Command Commander Major General Yaniv Asor, Head of the Operations Division Major General Itzik Cohen, Division 36 Commander Brigadier General Moran Omer, Kfir Brigade Commander Brigadier General A, and other commanders.
During the tour, the Chief of Staff and the commander of the command met with fighters from the Kfir Brigade and Brigade 188. They conducted an investigation at the point of contact with Hamas terrorists in Khan Yunis, where a kidnapping attack was foiled yesterday.
The Chief of Staff expressed appreciation to the fighters for their alertness and rapid response, which led to the elimination of most of the terrorists.
The Chief of Staff instructed the commanders to investigate the incident in depth, draw lessons, and continue with determined and professional activity.
Zamir: "We are in a challenging and intense multi-scene war. The Gaza arena is our main effort. We are moving forward with efforts to take action in Gaza City. Our missions remain the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas - we will not rest or stop until we complete them.".
The Chief of Staff added: "We have dealt Hamas a very serious blow. It was a terrorist army and today it is a guerrilla organization. We will continue to deal with Hamas everywhere, at home and abroad. The attempted attack that was foiled here is significant, I appreciate you and the way you acted. This incident could have ended differently. If you had not been here, this terrorist squad would have reached the settlements.".
Continuing his remarks, he emphasized: "Your presence alongside the operational operations is part of the defense of our community, you are the reserve forces. Yesterday, we issued tens of thousands of reserve orders for the forces to join. We appreciate the reserve personnel and their families, they do sacred work. I am sure they will stand by until the mission is completed.".
The Chief of Staff noted that the IDF continues to conduct the fighting, in cooperation with the political echelon, with the aim of presenting the maximum number of options for the continuation. "Our struggle is still long and many challenges have been prepared for us. The entire people of Israel are looking at you and trusting you. We have no other option but victory. The Kfir Brigade will continue to stand firm and bring achievements.".
