The IDF confirmed this evening (Sunday) that an anti-tank missile launched by Hezbollah yesterday at an IDF base on Mount Meron caused damage to the Air Force's air control tower.
However, the IDF says that there is no harm to the functional continuity of the air defense system, as all systems are backed up.
The IDF also said that the incident will be investigated so that such incidents do not repeat themselves, and to check whether it was possible to prevent the missile from hitting the site.
Yesterday, Hezbollah released a video of the attack it allegedly carried out on the northern control center - IAF 506 - of the Air Force at the summit of Mount Meron, claiming that the hits were detected near the control domes stationed at the base.
The 506th Air Force is one of three units that monitor the skies of Israel and warn of infiltration attempts. If an infiltration is detected, Air Force aircraft are scrambled to thwart the hostile target.
In the documentation published last night by Hezbollah, it was claimed that a missile directly hit the defense domes at the strategic air force base.
In the video, Hezbollah explained: "The Meron base, 506th Air Base, is located 8 km from the Lebanese border. It is 1,200 meters above sea level, and its area is 160,000 square meters.".
The video also states that this is the "air command and control center in northern Israel, whose mission is to organize, coordinate, and manage air operations in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and the northern eastern basin of the Mediterranean.".
Hezbollah officials expressed great satisfaction with the heavy barrage on Mount Meron, and made it clear that Israel should expect further reactions after the assassination of Saleh al-Arouri in the heart of Beirut.
A Lebanese security source told a media outlet affiliated with the organization that yesterday's barrage on Meron disabled control of the base for more than two hours, adding that Hezbollah sees it as a precursor to further operations.
These are apparently long-range anti-tank missiles of the improved Kornet type, which reach ranges of up to 8-10 kilometers. Since this is a direct hit, the Iron Dome system or other air defenses are unable to deal with the threat.
Hezbollah's Executive Council Chairman, Yassem Safi al-Din, said earlier today at an event in Lebanon: "There will be further reactions and the enemy should expect them.".
He sent a message to Israel: "If you think there are hidden bases and that we cannot hit them, then we tell you that there is no such thing in the face of Hezbollah's missiles and capabilities, and therefore all sites in Israel are within range of Hezbollah's missiles. These are targets that we can reach.".
