Alona Bar On, chairwoman of Globes newspaper, posted an apology on her Twitter account, following the wording of a legal article that appeared in the newspaper.

This is a news report about the conviction of a lawyer for embezzling client funds, which in its headline was referred to as the "Urdu lawyer," while identifying the social group to which she and her family belong.

In a tweet, Bar On wrote: "Last week, a headline appeared in Globes: 'Two years in prison for the ultra-Orthodox lawyer who embezzled clients' money.' Why was the word 'ultra-Orthodox' included? After all, the contractor Rami Shaviru, who appeared in the headline before it, was not stated to be 'secular'.".

She added: "There is no good answer to this. This is a disease that we are fighting and it has resurfaced even though it goes against our code of ethics (Section 23). Fortunately, an alert reader brought it to our attention. The headline on the website was corrected on the spot, we conducted an internal learning exercise and sent an email about the matter to all Globes employees.".

She noted: "I still want to apologize externally - to everyone who was hurt. We promise to try even harder so that one day we will no longer believe that such things once seemed normal.".
