Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein has been examining in recent days the formulation of a move that would cancel the dissolution of the 21st Knesset and advance elections for the 22nd Knesset. This was reported this evening (Tuesday) on Channel 12.

In a tweet, Edelstein wrote: "Continuing the election process - a breach of trust towards the citizens of Israel who are losing billions just because of the personal disqualifications of various party leaders. Dozens of wise men from all factions have approached me to find a solution to cancel the dissolution of the Knesset.".

""I have found a parliamentary outline and there is a possibility of canceling the unnecessary elections in Israeli history. Our duty is to allow the 21st Knesset to continue to function.".

The first stage in the process, the consideration of which has been greatly accelerated in recent hours, is the convening of the Knesset Presidency by the Speaker and the cancellation of the election recess into which the Knesset has entered.

The second stage is the formulation of new legislation, which will create a legal basis for canceling the dissolution of the Knesset, a basis that does not exist today.

This is a complex move, since legally such legislation must pass with a majority of at least 80 Knesset members, so the move requires very broad agreement in the Knesset, and is conditional on the formation of a broad coalition that will make it possible.

However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is already giving backing to the complex move.

The Likud said in response: "Prime Minister Netanyahu is taking Knesset Speaker Edelstein seriously and will examine his proposal in the coming days.".

Finance Minister Kahlon also expressed support for the move, tweeting: "The upcoming elections are unnecessary, expensive and harmful to the economy. Any initiative that leads to their cancellation is welcome.".

The Blue and White faction, on the other hand, made it clear this evening that they will not cooperate with a move to cancel the early elections. "Another spin designed to make the public forget that Netanyahu failed to form a government, prioritized his personal interests and single-handedly dragged an entire country into unnecessary elections. Netanyahu understands that he is going to lose the elections and is now looking for magic solutions. We are going to the elections and Benny Gantz will be the next Prime Minister of Israel.".

Gantz said: "The publications tonight make it clear - Netanyahu is afraid of the public legal sector, and Netanyahu is lying - there are no negotiations with Blue and White.".

The chairman of the Labor faction, MK Itzik Shmuli, also joined the opponents: "Cancelling the elections is an act that is legally impossible and morally unholy, and therefore will not pass. As the chairman of the Labor faction, I announce that we intend to oppose any move of this kind, the goal of which is Netanyahu's personal survival.".

The chairman of the New Right called on the prime minister and the chairman of Blue and White: "Stay up all night, agree on a normal government, and cancel these stupid elections.".
