Hadashot 2 paid a sum of approximately 50,000 shekels to a source who provided the recording of Yair Netanyahu having an embarrassing conversation with two of his friends, the Walla Branze website reported this morning (Thursday).
The conversation included a statement by Yair Netanyahu to Kobi Maimon's son, according to which "My father arranged 20 billion for your father.".
Earlier this week, it was reported that the recording had previously been offered to at least two media outlets, but was ultimately not sold to them.
According to the report, more than a year ago, in November 2016, Channel 10 News was offered the purchase of the recording, but the company refused to enter into negotiations, claiming that it was "yellow gossip" devoid of any real journalistic value.
The source later offered the recording to a senior journalist at Yedioth Ahronoth, who was initially willing to enter into negotiations on the matter. However, negotiations with Yedioth later fizzled out, apparently due to the editor's reluctance to publish the materials.
Meanwhile, today (Thursday) the issue of the recordings was raised by Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev at a government meeting discussing the budget - when she said: "This can't be, I also have a security guard. I went to Gilad Farm today, it doesn't make sense that I would be afraid to speak. It can't be that a driver is recording people who are under security. I'm willing to give up such security, but it's being forced on me.".
Netanyahu agreed with her words and said: "All the red lines have been crossed.".
According to a report on News 2, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Justice to examine the advancement of legislation on the subject and added that he contacted the Legal Advisor of the Prime Minister's Office to examine what can be done legally regarding the recording - and especially whether it is possible to take legal action against the employee who recorded it and investigate him for breach of trust.
The Prime Minister then turned to Sarah Ayelet Shaked, asked what she had to say, and added that he "did not hear" her statement on the subject.
Shaked replied in a weak voice - according to those present - that she would look into the possibility of enacting a law on this matter.
