What will they do now? 37 members of Knesset, including MK Yaakov Margi of Shas, signed a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about a year ago, demanding that he condemn the racist remarks of Donald Trump, then the leading candidate in the Republican Party in the United States presidential election, and demanded that he cancel their planned meeting in Israel - until he retracts his remarks against Muslims.

However, in contrast to the chairman of the Knesset Education Committee, Aryeh Deri actually celebrated the president-elect's victory this morning (Thursday) during a speech he gave in Ashdod: "How many Jews have said in recent days? If such a miracle happens, the days of the Messiah have already arrived," Deri said. "Therefore, we are truly in a period of the Messiah's sorrows, in which everything has turned upside down for the benefit of the people of Israel.".

MK Michal Rozin of Meretz, who initiated the letter, said at the time: "While leaders around the world condemn the racist and outrageous remarks of the Republican presidential candidate, Netanyahu gives him a warm embrace. Their meeting at the end of the month gives backing to his racist statements, thereby insulting the democratic nature of the State of Israel and harming its Muslim citizens.".

Yesh Atid chairman MK Yair Lapid wrote on his Facebook account at the time: "I hear the people who are cheering here about Trump's words, and my heart sinks.".

Trump ultimately canceled his visit to Israel, but the Prime Minister met with him during his visit to the UN General Assembly, as well as a meeting with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Last night, the Prime Minister and the President-elect spoke on the phone, and Trump invited Netanyahu to a meeting at the White House.
