This evening (Tuesday) Channel 2 published footage of the serious safety incident that occurred during the Independence Day flight, when two 'Shimshon' planes collided with each other off the coast of Tel Aviv, with thousands watching the flight.

The two planes were filmed by two amateur photographers, who watched them from the shore. In the video, the dangerous approach of the planes and the friction of their wings can be clearly seen.

Safety regulations state that the distance between planes should be at least four meters. The rubbing of the wings could have caused the new planes - which arrived from the United States only this year - to crash.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident.

According to the Channel 2 report, the two pilots were tried and sent to jail for several days, and the ten crew members in the structure, including the Rhinoceros plane they were leading, were grounded for various periods.

In addition, the Air Force established new flight procedures for flying in a structure, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

An IDF spokesman said in response: "Last week, the investigation into the Independence Day flight concluded. In accordance with the lessons learned from the investigation, immediate steps were determined regarding the flight procedures in the structure. The aircraft crews were dealt with in a command manner and were grounded for various periods of time. In addition, the aircraft captains were sentenced to prison. The Air Force views incidents of this type seriously and is investigating them in depth in order to prevent their recurrence.".
